Proof of Concept

Multi-Location B2B Commerce Platform

A unified BigCommerce storefront powered by custom middleware — real-time fulfillment, location-aware inventory, and checkout that remembers how every order should be fulfilled.

  • 4 Fulfillment methods
  • Multi Store locations
  • Live Availability per location
  • End-to-end Cart → checkout → order

Architecture at a Glance

Shoppers interact with a familiar BigCommerce storefront. Behind the scenes, a private API middleware layer orchestrates catalog sync, inventory, fulfillment logic, and checkout handoff — without exposing internal systems to the browser.

Catalog & inventory sync

Product and stock data are kept in sync through a private API — your ERP, PIM, or warehouse systems push updates to middleware, which propagates them to BigCommerce. No manual spreadsheet imports required at scale.

Location-Aware Fulfillment

Every product page surfaces fulfillment options based on the shopper's selected store and real-time availability. The choice travels with the cart through checkout and onto the order.

Ship to Address

Standard parcel delivery from the nearest fulfillment node with estimated arrival shown on the PDP.

In-Store Pickup

Reserve inventory at a chosen location. Checkout switches to BigCommerce pickup consignments automatically.

Ship to Store

Ship to a retail location for customer collection — ideal for bulky items and contractor workflows.

Local Delivery

Same-day or next-day delivery from a local branch when stock and service area allow.

Shopper journey

  1. Select a store — Header store picker sets context for the entire session.
  2. Choose fulfillment on the PDP — Options and ETAs update when the store changes.
  3. Add to cart — Middleware writes fulfillment details to cart metafields via the private API.
  4. Checkout honors the choice — Open Checkout reads metafields and configures shipping or pickup accordingly.
One fulfillment type per order — validated across the entire cart

BigCommerce does not support mixed fulfillment in a single order — every line item must ship the same way (pickup or shipping, never both). Our middleware enforces this before checkout, not after.

  • Cart-wide checks — When a shopper selects or changes a fulfillment method, middleware validates every item in the cart against that method and store.
  • Clear guidance — If any product is not eligible, the storefront and checkout show which items must be removed before proceeding.
  • Platform-aligned — Pickup uses BigCommerce BOPIS consignments; ship, ship-to-store, and local delivery use shipping consignments — one type per order, as BC requires.

Checkout That Follows Through

We extend BigCommerce Open Checkout — not replace it. Fulfillment intent captured on the product page is persisted on the cart and surfaced throughout the checkout experience.

  • Cart metafields

Store code, fulfillment method, pickup method ID, and ETA are written when items are added.

  • Checkout overlay

A fulfillment banner confirms the shopper's choice; consignments are built for pickup or shipping as appropriate.

  • Order handoff

On order creation, middleware copies fulfillment context to order metafields and staff notes for operations teams.

  • Cart-wide validation

Before fulfillment is saved or changed, middleware checks all cart line items — on the PDP, at add-to-cart, and in checkout.

  • One method per order

Aligned with BigCommerce — pickup or shipping for the whole cart, never mixed. Ineligible items are flagged for removal.

What the Middleware Handles

Laravel-based orchestration sits between your business systems and BigCommerce — a single integration point for storefront features and back-office automation.

Storefront APIs

Location list, per-SKU availability, cart-wide fulfillment validation, and cart metafield persistence — consumed by the theme and checkout overlay.

Catalog Sync

Products, categories, specs, and reviews flow in through a private API and land in BigCommerce on a schedule or on demand.

Operations

Inventory seeding, multi-location stock, B2B price lists, and order webhooks — ready to connect to WMS and ERP downstream.

Built for B2B & Pro Buyers

The same platform supports contractor accounts, case-pack pricing, and location-specific inventory — the patterns home-improvement and industrial supply chains expect.

  • Customer groups & contract pricing
  • Search & Discovery facets by department and category
  • Native brand and specification display
  • Multi-store pickup and ship-to-store for job sites
